This is the “Certified Green Consultant Media/Culture” certification program in Austria. The program is designed for self-employed individuals, employees, and managers in the media and culture industry. The certification confirms that the holder has the required competencies to optimize environmental and energy measures and to deal responsibly with the resources of ecologically sustainable media and culture production. The certification exam must be passed to receive the certification, which is valid for three years. The entry requirements include completion of a “Green Consultant” certification program or comparable training, relevant professional experience, and attendance at relevant further training.

The Austrian Film Institute provides funding for sustainable film productions through their Green Filming program. The program supports environmentally-friendly practices in various areas of film production, such as reducing carbon emissions and waste, promoting sustainable transportation, and using eco-friendly materials. Applicants must submit a green concept and a sustainability report to be eligible for funding.

The Austrian eco-label guideline for green film productions was developed in 2016 with the Ministry of the Environment, filmmakers, and environmental experts. It came into force in 2017 and is awarded to specific film productions, not the production company. Criteria must be met in two areas: the production company and the respective film production. An expert report from an independent, accredited test center is required for compliance with the criteria and to be awarded the eco-label. The publication of guidance in English has been annouced but to yet published (15/03/2023)

The EverGreen Prisma is a platform that includes tips and best practices for reducing the environmental impact of film productions. The platform also includes a list of eco-friendly suppliers and service providers in Lower Austria, as well as case studies of successful sustainable film productions. The LAFC created the EverGreenPrisma to support the film industry in Lower Austria in reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practices. By implementing the tips and strategies in the Green Guide, filmmakers can create more environmentally responsible productions and contribute to a more sustainable future for the industry. The main language is German but information in English are also available.

Der CO2-Rechner is a carbon calculator developed by MFG Medien- und Filmgesellschaft, commissioned by KlimAktiv and adapted for the Lower Austian Film Commission (LAFC). To access the carbon calculator is necessary to have a login. For new user is possible request a loging to the LAFC.
